Maroon 5 was tabbed as the Super Bowl 53 halftime performance along with Travis Scott and Big Boi.
When the performance was announced, fans obviously weren’t pleased. Maroon 5 is the commercial act that you would expect from the Super Bowl, but this game is in Atlanta. And Atlanta has such a vibrant music scene.
I’ll be the first to admit that there’s a lot to not like about Maroon 5’s music, but front man Adam Levine has serious talent. This was his cover of Prince’s “Purple Rain” at Howard’s 2014 Birthday Bash.
Dude can shred.
There’s talent. The kind of talent that makes me want to ask, “WHAT HAPPENED?!”
But hey, whatever works. They did get a Super Bowl halftime performance out of it.
