It was just a week and a half ago we saw Dutch cyclist Annemiek Van Vleuten in a horrific crash. She was knocked unconscious after hitting a curb on a downhill in the cycling road race, and suffered three spinal fractures and a concussion from the fall.
Now home in the Netherlands, she is already back on her bike.
Van Vleuten posted a ride on Strava, a social network for tracking runs and bike rides. In what she called an “easy townie ride,” Van Vleuten managed a 13.8 mile bike ride, averaging a very light speed of 9.4 mph.
In her last update on her website, Van Vleuten said she is still in pain but trying to move on from the crash. Considering she was in the lead until she fell, this makes sense. Getting back on her bike, even for an easy ride, has to help with this goal.
