Key & Peele ended its run on Comedy Central on Wednesday night, a too-soon goodbye for the sketch comedy show. The show managed at once to be supremely hilarious and at the same time offer smart, nuanced and — at times — strong opinions on race relations in America. It will be missed.
Because this is mostly a sports website, it’s fitting to say goodbye with their most famous sports sketch, the uproarious “East/West College Bowl” scene which consisted of little more than players introducing themselves.
What could’ve been simplistic and redundant (look at these guys’ funny names!) manages to become spectacular because of the way both Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key commit totally to each character. Every single one has an attitude, a backstory, a voice, a style of his own. It’s a bit over 3 minutes long, and you laugh the entire time. That isn’t an easy thing to do.
