Australian government declares sports commentator a 'boofhead,' whatever that means

It’s technically not, but Australian really feels like a totally different language sometimes. Like now, when the Australian government officially anointed Fox Sports commentator Eddie McGuire a “boofhead” after he criticized Australian rules football player Adam Goodes for a recent celebration — a “war dance” done as an earnest attempt to honor the country’s aboriginal peoples. McGuire came in for a lot of criticism for those comments, so much so that the New South Wales parliament felt the need to step in.

But what is a boofhead? For that, let us consult the leading authority of our time: The Urban Dictionary.

Australian saying. A boofhead is one who is a little slow, or maybe just does silly things. I’m a boofhead, that’s why i’m writing this, it’s silly. Generally good natured. The sort of person who drinks and gets so pissed they decide it’s a good idea to shout people you barely know drinks.

From henceforth, whenever we write about Eddie McGuire on this site, we will be sure to note his boofhead status.
