Moments like this are why HBO’s Hard Knocks is the best football show on television.

After the Rams traded up to the first-overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, everyone knew Nick Foles’ time with the team was running out. But that doesn’t make this footage of Jeff Fisher cutting Foles over the phone any easier to watch.

The call starts out on a high note, with Fisher gleefully greeting Foles and telling him he was just “touching base” before finally dropping the hammer.

“We’re going to go ahead and release you,” Fisher tells Foles.

That is not “touching base,” Jeff. You just fired the guy.

Foles was picked up by the Chiefs last week.
